Once, there was a doe blind in one eye. She grazed on the cliffs near the sea to be safe from hunters. Since she felt that the sea was safe, she would keep a watch on the land with her good eye and keep her blind eye on the water while grazing. One day, two men sailing on the sea saw the doe grazing on the cliff. One of them said, “My mouth is watering looking at that doe. Let us have her for dinner tonight.” Saying so, the man took out his bow and arrow and aimed it at the doe. The unsuspecting doe was struck in the heart. While bleeding to death, the doe exclaimed, “Alas! I took great precaution from the land but if only I would not have been so confident about being safe from the sea!”
