A hare was very proud of his speed. He liked to make fun of others. One day, he made fun of a slow-moving tortoise. The tortoise got angry and challenged the hare to a race. The hare accepted the challenge. On the fixed day, the race began. Soon, the hare left the tortoise far behind. So, he stopped and began eating grass and went off to sleep. He was confident of himself. The tortoise did not stop and kept on moving. Soon he came to the spot where the hare was sleeping. He overtook the sleeping hare. Passing by him silently, he got to the winning point. When the hare got up, it was quite late. So, he ran as fast as he could. But it was of no use as the tortoise had crossed the finishing line before him and was the winner.
