Long back an old man lived in a village along with his four sons.
All the sons were idlers and lazy, so the old man had to work hard in his field.
After some time, the old man realised that his end was near.
He called his sons to him and said, “Now I am about to die.”
“If you die, what would happen to us? We don’t even know how to work,” the elder son asked in worry.
“I have buried a treasure for all of you in the field. After my death you four can dig it out.”
After some time the old man died. The sons performed the last rites of their father.
All the sons in search of the treasure started digging the field.
Greedily they digged the field all over very deep, but there was no treasure.
The dejected sons sowed the seeds of grains in the field to gain something
for their labour.
Timely rain yielded rich crop in the field.
By selling the crop they earned a big amount of money.
The eldest son said, “Father had rightly said that the treasure was buried in the field.”
Moral : Hard work never goes unrewarded.
The Strength of Unity
In a village a rich merchant lived with his seven sons. The sons used to quarrel with each other.
One day, the merchant called his all sons to him. By his side lay a bundle of sticks.
“You are proud of your power. Aren’t you? I want to see your strength,” said the merchant lifting up the bundle of sticks.
“We indeed are powerful, father. You can give us a test,” eldest son claimed proudly.
The father challenged, “Alright. Break this bundle of sticks.”
The eldest one tried a lot but failed to break it.
“Try rest of you one by one,” merchant said to the other sons.
Others tried their best, but none could break the bundle.
“Now untie the bundle and break each stick separately,” the merchant spoke.
This time all the brothers easily broke the sticks. The father reasoned, “Look, if you fall apart quarrelling any one will break you.”
Moral : Union is Strength.
