The royal barber’s only task was to make the king’s daily shave. One day when he came, the king was still sleeping, so he shaved the king’s beard while he was sleeping. When the king woke up, he was very happy and asked the barber to wish for anything.
The barber asked to be a courtier and was granted the wish. On hearing this, the other ministers were worried that an uneducated man had also become a courtier. They went to Tenali who assured help. He told them that he would soon set things right and bring the barber to his original position.
Next day when the king went to the river, he saw Tenali scrubbing a black dog. On asking he said he was trying to scrub it hard to make it a white dog just like the barber became a minister.
The king got the hint and brought the barber to his original position.
