The Proud Ahantasur

Once, Brahma got pleased with the Sun-god. He gave him the responsibility to rule heaven. The Sun-god was elated to know about this, but soon ego started overtaking him. Thus, he gave rise to a demon named Ahanta. Ahantasur became a disciple of Shukracharya, the teacher of demons. Shukracharya taught him Ganesha’s Mantra. Ahantasur chanted the mantra with dedication for several thousand years. Ganesha blessed him to be the sovereign leader of all three worlds. The demon then built a huge demon army and trained his army to conquer any battle. Later, Ahantasur married Mamata and they had two sons, Garv and Shresht. His minister Adharm once advised him to kill all those who were Ganesha’s devotees. Ahantasur followed the advice of his ministers keenly. He destroyed all the temples and replaced the idols of the gods with his own idols. He was filled with such false pride that he threatened the citizens on earth to worship only him!
