The Proud Peacock

A peacock was dancing in a forest, with his feathers expanded like a fan. Seeing his beautiful feathers he
felt proud of them.

Suddenly, a crane came over there. After wishing the peacock well she began to talk to the peacock.

While talking the peacock looked at the feathers of the crane with contempt.

The crane said to the peacock, “Why do you look at me angrily?”

The peacock replied, “I am looking at your colourless feathers. Your feathers have neither beauty nor gleam.”

The peacock further added, “Look at my feathers. How attractive they are! But Nature has done no good to you.”

The peacock continued saying, “You are a healthy bird but your feathers are so dull. It pains me a lot.”

The crane uttered, “Nature always does good to each and every creature.”

The crane further commented, “Although your feathers are bright and mine are dull yet I can fly high in the sky.”

The crane continued saying, “But you can’t fly high like me. So, do not take pride in your feathers.”

Hearing these words the peacock felt ashamed of himself and begged the crane’s forgiveness.

Moral : We should never look down upon anybody.

The Wise Rats

A king was fed up with the increasing number of rats in his palace.

So, he tamed a cat so that the increasing number of rats might be cut down.

Seeing this, all the rats held a meeting and decided to bell the cat.

But the timid rats could not do so and thus remarked, “Belling the cat has not been mentioned in any book.”

As a result, the weak-hearted rats gave up the idea of belling the cat.

Slowly but steadily, time flew by. A new generation of rats appeared. They were wise.

Their grandparents advised them to beware of the cat.

But the rats of new generation pledged firmly to bell the cat.

The rats of old generation were surprised. They asked them how they would bell the cat.

The rats of new generation remarked with great enthusiasm that they had bought sleeping tablets from a chemist.

Thereafter, the rats mixed the sleeping tablets in the cat’s milk.
