The Proudest Parents

Once upon a time, there lived a professor named Crank-Shafte. He invented an amazing device that could measure joy and happiness of the people. The professor named the device Gladometer. It was a great invention and he became very famous around the world. Now, in a certain country, the people were excited to use the Gladometer. They wanted to investigate what it was that parents really liked the most. A competition was organised and children were more excited than their parents. Finally, the day came. Everybody reached on time and soon the competition started. One by one, the children performed and showed their talents in front of their parents. One boy gave an amazing dance performance, another came up with a trained dog who sang and danced. One girl played the guitar beautifully and another sang a melodious song.

One by one, all the children performed brilliantly and the parents’ happiness knew no bounds. At last, a very intelligent boy came to perform. He stood in front of the Gladometer but did not start his performance. Everybody was waiting for his performance but he did not know how to dance, sing or do anything else. Then, his parents asked him, “What happened, dear? What do you want to do? We will help you.”
“I don’t know how to impress anyone. I am just an obedient boy,” he replied. Having said this, the Gladometer measured such a high reading that it began to vibrate violently and finally exploded. The boy who had done nothing won all the prizes that day. Finally, the mystery as to what pleases parents the most was solved.
