The Reward of Kindness

Once, a little mouse named Chestnut lived in a tree. Many a time, the cold winds from the snow-clad mountains blew into his house, making him shiver the whole day. One day, it stopped snowing. Chestnut zipped out of his hole to look for an acorn, as he was hungry. He turned towards the spot from where he could hear a bird moaning in pain. It was an injured sparrow. “Can I help?” Chestnut asked. “Yes, please get a stick and tie it to my wing, to keep it straight. I want to fly back to my nest,” the sparrow said. Chestnut helped the sparrow and found some worms for her so that she might get well soon. After some days, there was a bad storm. Chestnut almost froze. Somebody knocked at his door. As Chestnut peeped outside, he saw the sparrow with some acorns for him. Chestnut felt very relieved now, as he did not have to go out to search for food in the storm.
