The Rook and the Boy

One day, Joey was in the woods, when he heard some noise. It was a funny sort of crooking noise. Joey recalled, “It sounds like a rook!” Soon he found a young rook on the ground, trembling with fear. Gareth could see that the bird was unable to fly, its eyes looking up at him, seeming to be pleading for help. Very carefully, he took the bird in his hands and took him home. He put the injured rook in a shoe-box. After some days, it began to get stronger and started speaking “Caw-Caw!” Joey was very happy. He took the bird outside and let him fly. Then he called out, “Whenever you need me, come to my window. I will always be there for you.” The rook looked as though it understood what he meant.
