Once there was a village at the end of the jungle. The village was often visited by dangerous animals but the villagers would fight against them and send them away.
One night, while everyone in the village was sleeping, a Lion visited the village. He saw that the villagers had many chickens and lambs. He thought, ‘I will never have to hunt again. This village has many chickens and lambs. I can come here every day and eat as much as I want.’ So, he started coming to the village every evening.
The villagers were worried about their chickens. They went to the oldest man in the village to seek a solution. He said, “let us ask the Hunter to come and kill the Lion.” The Hunter in the village was not a brave man. He didn’t want to go to the jungle but could not admit in front of the villagers that he was scared.
One afternoon, he set out into the jungle. Everyone in the village praised him and wished him good luck. Soon, he reached the centre of the jungle but could not find the Lion. He saw a Woodcutter in the jungle. He went up to him and asked him, “Brother, have you seen the Lion’s footprints?” The Woodcutter replied, “I have not seen the footprints. But I can show you the den of the Lion. You can go there and kill him.”
Petrified, the Hunter said, “I don’t want to see the Lion. I just wanted to see his footprints.” Saying this, the Hunter ran away back to the village.
