The second old man informed the genie that these two black dogs with him were his two brothers. They ventured into merchandising and opened shops. Both brothers suffered misfortunes in trading abroad. The man shared half of his earnings between them for their living.
One fine day, both insisted the man to travel together for a similar voyage to a foreign country. The man divided his 3,000 sequins equally among each, and buried another 3,000 in his house. After two months’ sailing, they did great trade at a seaport. One day, the man came across a beauti-ful yet poor woman, and consented to marry her. Jealous of his prosperity, his brothers threw them into the sea. His wife, essentially a fairy, saved his life and transported him to the roof of his house.
There, he found two black dogs with sorrowful faces, punished by the fairy to live as dogs for 10 years. The third old man made a similar request, to which the genie agreed. The former was later granted the last third of the merchant’s punishment. The merchant was freed away. He thanked the three old men and returned to his family.
