The Shoe Stealing Game (JootaChhupai) is a wedding custom practised in most parts of India in Hindu and Muslim weddings.
Do you know: The bride and the groom are expected to take off their shoes during the wedding ceremony.
In most Indian weddings, once the groom has removed his shoes, chaos would ensue, where the groom’s family tries to protect his shoes during the ceremony while the bride’s friends, sisters and relatives attempt to steal them. If the bride’s side succeeds then the groom has to pay a ransom to those who stole his shoes.
