“Mrs Martha Harris makes the best cakes and scones,” said the ladies, “I wish we could buy some.” Mrs Harris had never thought about it as she went about the farmhouse, busy with her work. But she knew that everyone loved her cakes. “Dear Hubby,” she said to Mr Harris one day, “How would it be if I began to sell cakes and other things?” Mr Harris thought about it for a while and then nodded, “That’s a good idea. I’ll convert the old barn into a bakery with a big window for you to display things.” Mrs Harris was thrilled and soon the barn stood with its new ovens and tables and a large window with shelves for display. ‘Harris Farm Cakes’ said the sign. As soon as people heard about it, there came a steady stream of customers to buy the scones, cookies, pies and cakes! Martha Harris was a great success!
