Long ago, a king and a queen had a beautiful daughter. The king had a great feast prepared. He invited twelve fairies to give their blessings but forgot to invite the thirteenth. So, she cursed, “On her sixteenth birthday, the princess shall prick herself with a spindle and die!” But the twelfth fairy changed the curse, “She shall not die, but fall into a deep sleep for a hundred years.” On her sixteenth birthday, the princess touched a spindle which pricked her finger. At that moment she fell into a deep sleep. The whole kingdom also fell into a deep sleep. After a hundred years, a prince came to the kingdom. He reached the room where the princess was asleep. He bent down and gave her a kiss. As he touched her, the princess opened her eyes and smiled at him. Throughout the castle, everyone and everything woke up. Soon, the prince and the princess were married.
