Once, there lived a weaver family in the village, in which there were a sweet mother and a caring father and a new born baby. Once the weaver family had gone to see the fair. In the fair a mongoose was being sold; the mother liked that mongoose and bought. The mother loved the mongoose as much as her own son. One day, she went out to fetch water from the well. In her absence, a big snake entered the house and slithered slowly towards the baby boy who was sleeping in his cot. When the mongoose saw this, he pounced on the snake and killed him.
The mongoose was happy that he had saved his brother. But when the wife came in, she saw blood on the mongoose’s lips and yelled, “Oh, you foolish animal, you have killed my son!” She beat the mongoose with a stick and drove it into the forest. When she went inside and saw the dead snake, she realized her mistake. She wept with sorrow but it was too late.
