The Sour Grapes

A Fox lived near a farm. Every day, he saw the farmer’s hen running around. He would dream of eating the delectable hen.
One day, he planned to go to the farm and hunt for some hen.
On the way to the farm, the Fox felt thirsty. It was a hot summer day and there was no water in sight.
He saw some juicy grapes scattered under a tree. He wondered what they were. ‘I hope these are not poisonous,’ he thought. But he wanted to quench his thirst. He quickly nibbled on the grapes and relished the taste. He said to himself, ‘I am so happy that I stopped by to taste these grapes. They are delicious.’
A Bird sitting on the tree saw the Fox enjoying the grapes and he called him out. “These are called grapes. Do you like them? I know where you can find a lot of grapes and eat as many as you like.”
The Fox was really excited and asked the Bird to show him the tree of grapes. He forgot all about the farmer’s hen and his plan.
The Bird led him to a vineyard which had hundreds of trees of grapes. The Fox jumped with joy. But he noticed all the grapes were in the branches high up on the trees. But he did not lose hope.

He jumped again and again to catch them but did not succeed. Every time he failed to reach the grapes. Finally, the Fox said, “I cannot reach these grapes. They look sour and would have given me a bad throat. I am happy without them.”
