Once a sparrow had devotion to a peacock and treated
it like his king, serving him well from dawn to dusk. The ‘king’ peacock appointed the sparrow as his Prime Minister.
He was the first to meet the Peacock and last to go after serving well. One day he was in a pensive mood after seeing a crane and his wife, caught by someone by spreading a net.
When he narrated this scene to his king peacock, he was advised not to be unduly worried about the bird-catcher. Another day when the sparrow saw two other sparrows fighting between them, he went near them to make peace but was caught in a net spread by the fowler.
Then he realized that the King had given him false hope that however wise one is, it is not possible to escape destiny, even after taking adequate precautions.
The King then told Shahrazad to tell more such stories. Shahrazad said that she would tell the story in the coming night, if the King would spare her from being killed.
