The Strange Cabin

Mason lived with his parents along the coast. An empty log cabin stood deep in the marsh. One day, Mason walked towards the marsh, with his dog, Percy. He reached the cabin and pushed open the door. To his surprise, when he saw a neat fireplace with the embers still red, a bright red‑cushioned chair stood in front of the hearth. A warm cup of tea cup lay on a table next to it. Suddenly, Percy started barking loudly. Mason could hear footsteps approaching. He ran back home. When Mason told his father what had happened, they went back to check the cabin. His father opened the cabin door; a layer of dust swirled. Cobwebs filled the fireplace and a teacup stained yellow for years lay on the table. The chair rotted in front of it. “See. This place has been empty for 20 years,” said his father. Completely shaken by what he saw, Mason never went back to the cabin.
