The Sun Gate

Tiahuanaco is an ancient city in Western Bolivia dating back to 14,000 BC. One of its few constructions that survived was the Sun Gate. It is 3 metres tall and carved on a single block of stone with the Sun-god depicted in the centre. This megalith was lying horizontal when the European explorers discovered it in the mid-19th century. Researchers believe that the Sun Gate is a solar calendar from a civilization more than 12,000 years ago, but this calendar differs from the present because at that time the Earth had a different solar orbit and axial tilt, and a different moon.
