The Sunflower Fairy

Once upon a time, there was a tall sunflower plant in a garden that belonged to an old lady.
It always had one flower on it and that was a beautiful bloom. Every day, a gorgeous black and gold butterfly came to the sunflower. The sunflower would sway in the breeze and the butterfly would flit around it happily.
One day, dark clouds gathered in the sky and big drops of rain fell heavily. The raindrops hit the petals of the sunflower and it drooped in the rain. The daylight seemed to have faded away and there was no sign of the sun anywhere. The butterfly also was not around because it could not fly with wet wings.
Some time later, the sun peeped out to see if the rain had stopped. The rain slowed down a bit, and a rainbow appeared in the sky. The sunflower looked at the rainbow and was fascinated seeing all its colours.

‘Oh, I wish I too had all these beautiful colours!’ thought the sunflower.
The sunflower did not know that the old lady was listening to her wish, nor did she know that the old lady had strange magical powers.
Slowly as its petals dried, the flower stood up tall and beautiful in the sunlight. But a wonderful bit of magic had happened. Out of the sunflower came a little fairy dressed in the colours of the rainbow, with a violet cap and beautiful wings.
That day when the butterfly came to meet the sunflower, it saw the fairy sitting cross-legged on the flower.
“Hello!” said the butterfly, “Who are you?”

The fairy smiled back and said, “Don’t you know me, friend? I am the Sunflower Fairy!”
The butterfly was astonished and promptly fell in love with the Sunflower Fairy! They now spent their time flitting all over the garden together while the old lady looked on happily. She knew that the sunflower would fade away, but soon there would be another and the fairy would have a home.
