The Tail of Kite

Keshav had made a kite. He wanted to fly it on the day of the kite festival. It was a bright yellow one with a red top. It would be clearly visible no matter how high it flew.
Keshav did not know that his kite could think, and had a wish of its own. It wanted a long tail that would flutter in the wind when it flew. That tail would also help it balance itself. Besides, a tail was fun! But how could it get a tail. Someone had to tell Keshav.
Now, there was a real problem. How was the kite to tell someone who would, in turn, tell Keshav? Then the kite saw that there was a picture in the room that showed a boy flying a kite with a tail. Someone came into the room and put on the fan. The kite fluttered in the breeze. Slowly, it inched its way to the picture, slowly but steadily.
Keshav’s friend, Hemant, had come to meet him. Keshav told him and wanted to show his beautiful yellow kite to him. But when he looked, it was not where he had left it.

“Where’s my kite?” he wondered.
“There!” said Hemant, It seems to have fluttered to that picture there.”
Keshav went to pick it up and laughed. “Look, Hemant! My kite seems to have found a friend!” he said.
Hemant came up and saw that the yellow kite was near the picture of the boy flying a kite. He too joined in the laughter and then he stopped.
Keshav picked his kite up. Hemant turned to him impulsively and said, “Keshav, this picture! The kite in this picture has a tail! Why don’t you add a tail to your kite too?” The yellow kite was very pleased. It had managed to convey its message. It waited hopefully for Keshav’s reply.
“I say! That’s a good idea. I have some paper left,” said Keshav, “Let’s make the tail!”

So the two boys found the paper. Soon a long red tail was attached to the kite. The boys ran up to the terrace and tied the string. The kite was balanced. Hemant held it at one end while Keshav stood ready with the string. As the breeze turned, Hemant tossed the kite and Keshav lifted it.
The kite caught the wind and took off with its long fluttering red tail! The kite flew happily and thought, “It’s true! If you really wish for something, and work for it, it does come true!”
Moral: If you wish for something, work for it.
