The Teacher’s Day

The teacher’s day is celebrated on the birthday of Dr. Radhakrishnan, who was a very renowned professor, thinker and philosopher. It is celebrated every year on 5th September. Dr. Radhakrishnan was a renowned professor of philosophy. After teaching philosophy in Indian universities, he became professor of Indian philosophy in England. Due to his knowledge, he was called living encyclopedia. He became vice chancellor of Banaras Hindu University after pandit Madan Mohan Malwiya. Later on he served as an ambassador in Russia. He was elected as a vice president and president of Indian republic. He preferred to celebrate his birthday as teacher’s day. And since then it is commemorated in schools and colleges all over India as teacher’s day. On this day, the whole nation pays tribute to teachers by calling them nation builders and the uncrowned monarch of the country.
Different educational institutions celebrate this day in a different ways. In some institutions senior students are entrusted with the duty of teaching junior students to enable them to work as teacher in future.
In some schools and colleges it is celebrated on a grand scale. The parent-teacher Association which is briefly called P. T. A. arranges this function in honor of teachers. Large number of parents comes to attend the function. An educationist of high caliber is invited to preside over this function. A big portrait of Dr. Radhakrishnan is put on the table. It is garlanded with respect. Then poems are recited in praise of teachers or a variety of programme befitting the occasion is put up for the recreation and amusement of audience and teachers.
On the teacher’s day good teachers are awarded for their meritorious teaching by the state and central govt. through President or the Governor of the state. As teacher who is fortunate to get president’s award generally gets certificate of meritorious service and gets extension of his service.
Teacher’s day is very important as it reflects appreciation of teacher’s service to nation and his role as nation builder.
