Once, a beautiful girl’s mother decided to get her married. She found a very rich husband for her. But the girl was so beautiful that another man killed her husband to have her. The dead husband’s loyal slave, in turn, killed that rival. When the girl heard about these killings, she was very upset. She prayed to God to take away her beauty. Suddenly, lightning struck her and she died. Her grieving mother buried her. One day, the mother saw some grass-like plants sprouting on top of the dead daughter’s grave. Thinking them to be useless weeds, she pulled them out. She noticed that the ‘weeds’ looked like her dead daughter’s teeth. Then a voice said, “Those are your daughter’s teeth.” The woman was very happy and planted the ‘weeds’ all over her land to spread the memory of her daughter, and that is how the garlic plant began.
