The Third Day

The third day saw another ferocious battle. Both the armies in formation clashed violently. Bhishma led the Kaurava charge with Duryodhana. Bhima and Arjuna fanned out to attack the Kauravas. Bhisma and Drona attacked Yudhishthira who was supported by Nakula and Sahadeva. Shakuni attacked Satyaki and Abhimanyu, but was defeated by them. Bhima and Ghatotkacha took on Duryodhana, driving him back. Duryodhana could never accept defeat and take responsibility for his own bad actions. He spoke bitterly to Bhishma, accusing him of favouring the Pandavas and their allies. Bhishma continued to do his duty. Arjuna fought him unsuccessfully. This made Krishna very angry, because the warrior’s duty is to fight with his full power. If he failed Krishna himself would have to break his vow and kill Bhishma, he said. Arjuna agreed that he would never falter in performing his duty.
