Three little goslings who lived near a forest were very afraid of the wolf who would eat them if they were caught. So, they decided to build a house for themselves.
Looking for material to build a house, they found a man carrying a lot of straw. He gave them enough straw to build a hut, with a door, a kitchen, a balcony and all the things needed to make it cosy. Then the largest gosling went in and shut the door. In a while, she came out and said, “It’s comfortable for only one of us. I will stay here. Go away.” The other two goslings pleaded but in vain. They decided to build another house. They found a man taking hay in a cart and he gave them some hay for their house.
When it was ready, the second gosling went in and called out, “Go away! There’s only place for me here!”
The sad little gosling went to look for something to build a hut. She found a kind man carrying stones and iron in a cart. He helped her make a hut and soon a stone hut was ready.
One day, the wolf found out where the goslings were. He went to the straw hut and knocked at the door but the gosling refused to let him in. So, he blew down the straw and ate up the gosling. The second gosling met with the same fate.
Then he went to the house of the little gosling and found he couldn’t blow it down. So, he said he wanted to be friends, and offered to bring macaroni, cheese and butter and milk.
The little gosling was clever and knew that the sly wolf would certainly eat her. But she agreed and asked him to fetch all the things for her to cook.
The wolf brought the macaroni, cheese and butter. The gosling asked him to put everything on the balcony. “I’ll open the door when all is ready,” she called out.
The wolf waited while the gosling boiled water to make the macaroni. Then she called out, “Dear Wolf, try the macaroni please. Put your nose in through the balcony, and I’ll give you some.”
The wolf put his nose in and the gosling immediately poured boiling water over its muzzle. The wolf was scalded badly and died.
The gosling cut him open and found her sisters alive inside him. They begged her forgiveness and they lived with the kind little gosling.
