In Farmer Brent’s yard stood an old tree, dry and shrivelled. He had asked one of his men to chop it down. The tree heard and was very sad. Then Hannah, the Farmer’s daughter, came home. She looked at the tree and said, “Father, don’t cut it down. Let me see what I can do.” Hannah was studying art and had a lot of bright ideas. She also had some strange tools. She began working on the tree next morning. Hannah peeled the bark and chipped and chopped, drilled and rubbed for a week. Then one afternoon, she called everyone. There was a beautiful statue carved out of the dying tree! It was a man reaching up the sky with a large bowl. Inside the bowl she had cleverly hidden a tube from which spouted a fountain of water! “It’s the Tree of Life now!” said Hannah. The tree smiled!
