The king was very puzzled. When his twelve daughters went to bed, they had new shoes, but every morning the shoes were worn out. He announced that anyone who could find out the reason for this would marry one of them and be king. Many princes tried but failed. A soldier, coming to the city, helped an old woman on the way. She told him not to drink anything the princesses gave him and gave him a cloak to make him invisible. That night, the soldier acted as if he had been asleep after drinking wine, but he put on the cloak and followed the princesses. They went to an island with the trees of gold, silver and diamonds. They danced with princes all night. The soldier told the king all about it and showed him the gold, silver and diamond branches. The king married his eldest daughter to the soldier who later became king!
