The Wolf-man

“Never lie, otherwise no one will ever believe you,” Mom always told Motwana, a six-year-old girl, who was loved by all. Motwana had a baby brother Patty, who was always crying for something or the other. Motwana, on the other hand, was happy with whatever she had. At least that was what everyone thought! At heart, Motwana was extremely jealous of Patty. ‘Mom and Dad don’t love me any more! They just love Patty,’ she would say to herself angrily. One night, while everyone slept, Mom and Dad were woken up by Motwana’s screams. “The wolf-man is here. The wolf-man is here!” she kept yelling. Her parents tried to soothe her, “It must be a bad dream, Motwana!” But she kept repeating that he was going to take her. This continued for a lot of nights. Motwana kept insisting that she was speaking the truth. Mom and Dad looked around the house, in the neighbourhood, and even the nearby forest. They couldn’t find anything. They were worried that the wolf-man would really come for Motwana. They informed the police and there was a very long investigation. The police also searched but no one could find any wolf-man. Motwana was lying! She knew it was wrong, but she loved the attention. Now, Patty kept playing in his corner all by himself. He slept alone in the bed while Motwana had everyone around her in the other corner of the room. Motwana was truly happy now. But one night, she decided to stop. It had gone on for very long. So, she slept. But in the middle of the night, she was woken up by someone whispering, “You should not have called out to me!”

She woke up with a start and felt a deep fear in her heart when she saw the deep yellow eyes with dark red eyeballs of the wolf-man. He looked at her directly and repeated, “You should not have called out to me!” Motwana got really scared. “Please forgive me,” she apologised to the wolf-man. “I promise that I will never lie again,” Motwana said, frightfully. She realised her mistake after all. Next morning, Motwana went to her parents and told everything about the wolf-man to them. “I will apologise to everyone as I know what I have done was wrong,” she said to her parents. Now, Motwana had learnt a lesson.
