A wolf had killed a bear. He was put on trial. The lion called all the animals. The animals were very angry with the wolf, as he had killed someone they all loved. The bear had been kind to everybody and was greatly respected. When the trial began, the lion said, “Anyone who wants to speak against the wolf, please come forward.” The deer said, “I saw the wolf snatch honey from the bear and run away.” One by one, many animals gave evidence against the wolf. Finally, the sparrow said, “Oh! It was a sad sight to see. I saw from the tree that this cruel wolf killed the bear.” The lion ordered, “Since there are so many witnesses, I order that the wolf be killed at once.” The wolf cried and asked for forgiveness. Then he hung his head down in shame.
