The Young Puppet-maker

Once, there was a young puppet-maker. He loved to make puppets but he was a beginner and not an expert in making puppets. He tried hard to make a perfect puppet but every time he failed. One day, he went to a shop to sell the puppets he had made. The shopkeeper laughed and said, “All the puppets are worthless. I don’t want to buy even a single puppet from you. So, please go somewhere else or throw them into the dustbin.”
The puppet-maker quietly walked out of the shop. He was very upset but he entered another shop. He asked the shopkeeper, “Would you like to buy my beautiful puppets?” “They are not beautiful. They are very ugly. You can never be a good puppet-maker because you have no ability to make puppets,” said the shopkeeper. “I will be the best puppet- maker,” said the puppet-maker and he returned home with all his puppets.

The puppet-maker did not give up. He decided to put all his efforts in making just one puppet. He started working. Whenever he found a fault in his puppet, he discarded it and started all over again. The years passed by. With every attempt, his puppet became better.
By now, his puppet had become much better but he kept making improvements to seek perfection. He became poorer and people started laughing at him. Now, he was an old man. His puppet was wonderful. Finally, one day, after years of work, he completed work on the puppet.
He said, “This is a perfect puppet now.” Then, he put the puppet on the table and went to sleep, satisfied and happy. The next morning, the puppet came to life. He had many adventures with the old man whose name was Geppetto. He gave more joy to Geppetto than any other puppet-maker would have ever got from his creation.
