Yearbooks are great mementos, but they’re expensive and can’t be carried around in your wallet or back pocket. If you’re looking for a fun and easy way to remember your friends, a themed photo shoot is the way to go. Invite everyone over for a fancy dress get-together full of food, fun and some good-natured goofing off and document it all with a group photo-shoot. Not only will you have a one-of-a-kind keepsake, but also you’ll get to hang out with your friends in the process!

What You Need:
❑ Camera
❑ Props of your choice (optional)
❑ Large white sheet (optional)
❑ Photo printer or access to a place that prints photos
❑ Snacks and drinks (for all the friends you invite over)
What You Do:
- Brainstorm themes for your photo-shoot with your child. Here are a few to get you started:
❑ Vampires (perhaps use leftover Halloween paint to spice it up)
❑ Wild west, complete with cowboy hats and jeans
❑ “Great Gatsby”, a 1920s flapper theme
❑ Colour theme (perhaps school colours), where everyone dresses in the same colour(s) - Encourage your friends to bring their own costumes with them, but it’s a nice touch to have a few extra accessories on hand for your friends to play with and try on.
- On the day of the photo-shoot, gather everyone together. For the best light, try shooting outside. If you have a white sheet, you can hang it up as a backdrop for a more professional look.
- Once everyone is in place, start taking pictures! Encourage everyone to have fun with it, trying different poses and action shots.
- Rotate photographers among your friends or get a parent or sibling to help out in order to make sure everyone is included in the shoot.
- When the shoot is done, upload the photos to your computer, edit them and print them out or take them to a photo printing shop.
- Don’t show anyone the photos until the end of the year, and then give them as parting gifts to all of your friends. Make everyone sign each other’s photo and write a short message to remember them.
