One night, while going to sleep, Sheikh Chilli’s wife heard some noises from outside their house. She looked out from the window but could not see anyone. She woke Sheikh up and told him to see if he could spot anyone. Sheikh also looked out but didn’t see anything strange. Then suddenly, Sheikh’s wife saw a shadow on the window and realised that a thief was hiding there. She said, loud enough for the thief to hear, “Maybe it’s a ghost. Let’s not go out.” Sheikh also said in a loud voice, “Please Mr. Ghost, go away. We are very scared. All of us in this village are very poor. Please spare us!” The thief was quite amused by this silly talk. He entered the house, sure that these silly people would be scared of him. But as soon as he entered, Sheikh’s wife pounced on him with a broomstick. The shocked thief fell unconscious! Silly Sheikh’s wife was not so silly, after all.
