Thomas William Francis Gann was born on 13th May 1867 in Murrisk Abbey, Ireland, and he died on 24th February 1938 (aged 71 years) in London, UK. A doctor by profession but Thomas is best known for his exploration as an amateur archaeologist of the Mayan civilization ruins. He was stationed in British Honduras as a medical officer where he got interested in the ruins of the Mayan Civilisation in the colony. He explored and documented all the buildings which included a rare temple with an idol intact inside it. He discovered numerous sites which include Lubaantun, Ichpaatun and Tzibanche.
