Create your very own style statement with an all-natural dyed scarf.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Depending on the colours you want on
your scarf, use the natural materials. - You could make your scarf of a single colour or
different colours. For this experiment, we use
purple cabbage and beetroot. - Ask an adult to cut the cabbage and beetroot
into small cubes. Keep them separate. - Starting with cabbage, place it in a steel vessel, add ½ cup of vinegar and water till the cabbage is
submerged in water. Boil on gas till the cabbage
loses its entire colour. - Remove the cabbage from the coloured water
and soak the parts of the scarf you want coloured
purple into the water. - Once your scarf has achieved the desired shade of
purple, remove it and repeat the process with the
beetroot. - After your scarf is dyed purple and red, lay it
out to dry.
RESULT
Your do-it-yourself scarf is ready. And that too is
made from all-natural vegetable dyes. You can use
a single colour or various different colours by soaking only specific parts of the scarf into the coloured water. Vinegar aids in the process of extracting colour from the vegetable and mixing it into the water to create a brilliant dye.
