The trumpet fish lives in coral reefs or lagoons and can grow 40-80 cm long. Its long body is reddish-brown to greenish-yellow with an upturned mouth, small jaws and a long, tubular snout. It swims slowly and vertically, blending in with corals like sea pens, sea rods and pipe sponges. It feeds on small fish like wrasses and invertebrates.
