TUBE STRENGTH (Amazing Science Games and Experiments)

Materials Required:

  1. Sheet of typing paper
  2. Rubber band
  3. Book

Procedure:

  1. Roll a single sheet of
    typing paper into a tube
and slip a rubber band around it.
  2. Let the tube stand on end on a flat surface. Carefully place a book on top of the tube and you will see that the paper supports the weight of the book.

This is what happens:

A tube is a shape that has much more strength than a flat object. This allows you to place the book on top of the paper without crushing it. Pillars have the shape like that of a tube, and they are used in some buildings for holding up their heavy weight.
