Tun shells are large marine snails inhabiting sandy or muddy bottoms in sea grass meadows. They have thin, strong shells and no operculum. The snail is larger than the shell which has a very large aperture and has spiralling ridges. They emerge at night to feed on echinoderms, crustaceans, bivalves, sea urchins and fish. Lifespan is 30 years.
