Turaco

The Musophagidae (scientific name) or turaco is a family of arboreal birds native to the forests and savannah of Sub-Saharan Africa. Their average size ranges from 16-30 inches. It is a brightly coloured bird, with a colourful plumage of blue, green and purples. The bird has a crest on its head which gives it a sharper look. They have very poor flight, but are great as climbers. Its diet includes fruits primarily. They are known to eat leaves, flowers, nectar and sometimes even insects. An average clutch has 2-3 eggs, with incubation period lasting anywhere from 20-24 days depending on the species. The IUCN listing for most of the turaco species is the LEAST CONCERN.
