Turn Milk Into Stone (Creative Chemistry Experiments)

You will need:

  1. 1 cup of warm milk
  2. 1 tablespoonful of
    normal white vinegar
  3. 2 mould
  4. Food colour
  5. Paper napkins or cloth
    napkins
  6. Strainer

Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could prove to your friends that you can turn liquid-like milk into something as hard as a stone?

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take one cup of milk heated a little
    more than warm.
  2. To this add 1 tablespoonful of normal
    white vinegar.
  3. Add any food colour you want to
    make it more colourful.
  4. Stir the milk with all your energy,
until it separates forming little chunks.
  5. The chunks are scientifically known as casein.
  6. Now, strain the milk and discard the liquid.
  7. Take some paper napkins or cloth napkins and place the drained casein on the napkin so as to absorb all the water.
  8. Once all the water is removed, take the casein and pat it down in a bowl or any utensil you want to use as a mould.
  9. Leave the casein for two days. Afterwards, remove it from the mould.

RESULT

The casein would be solidified into a material as hard as a stone. You probably will not be able to break it without the help of a hammer. This material was used as a substitute before plastic was invented.
