Types of Plains

Plains are one of the most widespread landforms of the Earth. They are primarily classified on the basis of the process of formation. The three main types of plains are: structural plains, depositional plains and erosional plains.

Erosion is a natural process that creates or destroys the landforms of the Earth. The common erosion agents are: wind and water. The landforms created by erosion are: flood plains and sandbars. This is called fluvial erosion in which deposition and accumulation of debris takes place. In case of destructive erosion, wind or water wears down large rocks or mountains. The landforms formed by this process are valleys and canyons.
