Hanuman could notice the change in Sage Valmiki’s expressions on reading his Ramayan. He asked the sage the cause of his disappointment. The sage said, “Hanuman, I have also created a script of Ramayan with great effort. But the Ramayan that I have created is no match for the splendour of your creation and would, therefore, go ignored.” Hanuman looked at the massive mountain, and millions of stones in front of him, all holding his creation majestically. He quickly made up his mind and uprooted the entire mountain containing his Ramayan and moved at lightning speed to the nearest ocean and sank the mountain in it! Sage Valmiki was shocked to see this happen. He decided that he would take rebirth and sing the glory of Hanuman, which he had understated in his version. Later, during the period of Mahakavi Kalidas, a huge tablet of rock was found floating in the sea. Kalidas deciphered it and recognised that it was from the Hanumad Ramayan. Kalidas described the words and glorified Hanuman’s character.
