Vampire bats are bats whose food source is blood; they are of three types. Unlike other bats, vampire bats can run on land as well. They tend to live in colonies in almost completely dark places, such as caves. A typical vampire bat weighs 40 grams and can consume over 20 grams of blood in 20 minutes’ feed. They use infrared radiation to locate blood flows close to the skin on their prey.
