Velcro

Velcro or the hook-loop fastener was invented and conceptualized by Georges de Mestral in Commugny, Switzerland, in the year 1948. He found the idea in the year 1941, when he was returning with his dog from a hunting trip in the Alps. He checked the seeds/burrs that kept sticking to his clothes, as well as, on his dog’s fur. He continued his research and noted that many hooks (hundreds in numbers) caught hold of anything with a loop, which included hair, fur and clothes. Although many people didn’t take him seriously yet he continued his studies and with the help of a weaver, he perfected the hook-loop fastener in a unique way. He patented the design in the year 1955, and later on formed the Velcro industries for manufacturing his invention for selling and mass usage. Today, Velcro industry is known to be the hub for the invention and designing of the hook-loop fastener.
