Walking Dead

Walking-Dead

The Walking Dead are a reality in the Toraja group of South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Do you know: The Torajahave an annual ritual known as the ‘Ceremony of the cleaning corpses’.

We already know that the Torajacommunity live with their dead members for months until proper funerary arrangements are made. But going a step further, the Toraja have a ritual performed in August, where members of family and relatives remove the deceased (no matter how long back the person died) from their graves once a year and ‘walk’ them back to their place of death to clean and redress, after which they are returned to their coffins to wait another year.
