Walruses are large flippered marine mammals growing up to 2.2-3.6 metres long and weighing 800-1,700 kg. They are bulky animals with prominent tusks and whiskers. They feed on bivalve molluscs, shrimps, crabs, tube worms, soft corals and tunicates. Calves are born after a gestation period of 15-16 months. Lifespan is 20-30 years.
