Waterloo is a popular municipality in the province of Walloon Brabant, Belgium. Known throughout history as the town where Napoleon was finally defeated, the small town of Waterloo covers an expanse of 21.03 sq.km. The name itself has Dutch origins, with the first half of the name meaning water and the second half loo–meaning forest or a clearing in a forest. This is because the early settlers had taken up marshy clearings in the Sonian Forest.
