Wattled Starling

The Creatophora cinerea (scientific name) or wattled starling is native to Eastern and Southern parts of Africa. They inhabit grasslands and open woodland areas. The wattled starling is 8.2 inches in length and has a short tail and pointed wings. Its plumage is mostly grey, but the white rump and black tail and flight feathers are a stark contrast. A male which is breeding and the one which isn’t are differentiated by a white shoulder patch which is only there on a breeding male. It has a head pattern which is formed by yellow skin surrounding the eye. Their diet is comprised of seeds, berries, insects and invertebrates. Both male and female incubate a clutch of 3-4 eggs for 11 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
