At the wedding, the groom’s best man has the important task of carrying a special kind of banner. The poles of this banner must be made from a fruit-bearing tree, and the pole must also be cut off the tree with a single stroke. An apple or onion wrapped in foil is placed on top of the pole, along with handkerchiefs, ivy and ribbons.
