Welcome was talent

Dhirubhai’s talent hunt funda was also quite famous. He was always on the look out for capable people. When he would decide that he needed that particular person for his empire he used to send an invitation for a talk to the target. The ensuing meeting would lead to a very balanced conversation. To several managerial and engineering talents of fame were made offers by him of placement in Reliance Industries. Such people used to be already in the service of established industrial houses. Winning them over was no easy task. More often then not those people were already satisfied with their jobs and positions. Most of them infact were pampered ones by the employers. And they hesitated to move to new environment leaving back the cosy familiar set ups. They had served the companies they were with for several years and had naturally been bonded with. They had also grown the sentiment of loyalty to the employer company. Leaving the company looked like an act of disloyalty or an unethical move. The biggest stumbling factor was that such successful people, having reached that high level cared for moral values. The money no more mattered. They would not accept moral downfall or some act that bit their conscience. But somehow Dhirubhai managed to wean away such talents for his own enterprises.
For Dhirubhai it was simple operation. First he would contact the target talent. The talent was told that he was required by Reliance team for the benefit of the company. The offer would be turned down politely by the talent. Then, Dhirubhai would request for a personal talk and send him an air ticket. No professional would like to miss the opportunity of meeting the great Dhirubhai Ambani in person in most of the cases. The target was generally allowed the time of his choice. It made a favourable impression and the target felt honoured.
During the talks Dhirubhai kept up easy and natural stance. The air of informality was maintained. Then, the talent would be shown the complex Reliance wanted him to take charge of or work at. Indirectly the message was given that his talent was not being given justice where he was working at. The talent was made to feel that he was just made for that project of Reliance. With this psychological play Dhirubhai, Mukesh and Anil were able to win over prize talents from various other industrial houses. The remuneration was never the topic of bargaining. It was taken for granted that Reliance would pay more than the expected amount. In some cases the talent quoted a price and Ambanis upped it on their own showing industrial generosity. There never was due shortage of required talents for Reliance Industries of Ambanis.
