A kangaroo rat is a seed-eating rodent which hops like a kangaroo though it is not related with it. It has a large head, large fur-lined cheek pouches, big hind legs and small front legs. It has a long tail, longer than its body and head. Kangaroo rats live in arid areas that have soft soil, suitable for burrowing. They are mostly found in the North American Desert. They are adapted to live in waterless habitats. They survive by breaking down of the seeds that they eat and never drink water because they get all the water they need from these seeds. Sometimes, they consume vegetation and insects, too. Kangaroo rats are eaten by coyotes, foxes, owls and snakes.
